Dear All,
You must aim to complete a draft of your essay over the weekend, and send it to me early next week.
I have 47 students writing an essay, and everyone will need help with their draft. If you don't give me enough time to read your work, it is possible you will not receive much guidance.
Your draft needs to be complete, and your best work - not something rushed and unfinished. Include citations and references. I do not want to have to spend time pointing out problems which you actually understand but have not included in your essay. Guidance and correction only benefits you when you have already produced your best work. Correcting errors you are already aware of is a waste of everyone's time.
Remember: first draft = best first attempt. There is no other way to reach your potential.
Remember: incomplete, rushed first draft --> improved draft, but not great.

Monday 5th November
Monday 5th is exam day.
The lessons in the morning before the exams can be used in several ways:
1/ Personal Statements - the deadline is not far off now, and you all have a lot do to make your statements perfect. Bring whatever you need to make progress on this.
2/ Mission to Mars essay. You can use this time to carry out research and plan some ideas. Bring the essay handout with you to class.
3/ Revision and further preparation for the exams. This is also an opportunity to ask me anything about the skills being tested.
Please come to class with a clear idea of how you would like to spend the time. You might, of course, like to do all three activities.
